Top 5 people foods that are safe for your cat
They provide a clean source of protein and B vitamin for cats. Felines are natural hunters, they eat what they can find, eggs from birds are just another source of food for cats.
Carnivorous by nature, cats need to consume meat for them to be able to properly function. Turkey is a lean meat that people can share with their cats, it’s important not to prepare the meat with any additional oil, garlic or onions as these are toxic to cats.
Another great source of fiber and protein, it’s important to note to stay away from bread that has a high volume of preservatives.
Go for the plain bread when going to the market, it’s healthier for humans too 😀
Hard cheeses like cheddar, swiss and gouda contain a good source of protein and is high in calcium for both human and cat bones.
They are a great source of fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants it must be noted that blueberries should only be fed in moderation, they are still considered to be a “sweet” food for cats, so be careful not to over do it, a few blueberries in moderation is the best way to go.
Also consider bananas, seedless water melon, and apples without the core is another good alternative. But remember, moderation is the key 😀
3 Foods that are Toxic for Your Cat
While we are on the topic of feeding cats with peoples food, it’s easy to mix non-toxic with toxic foods. We add things like onion and garlic and other herbs to our meals to enhance the taste but it is important not to feed these few toxic and potentially deadly foods to your cats.
There are many foods that are dangerous to cats, but I decided to stick to the main 3 foods.
You probably heard that it is bad to feed your cat or dog chocolate, well you heard right! Chocolate contains a thing called Theobromine which is the main culprit in making our sweet milky tasting treat a potentially deadly food for both cats and dogs.
Garlic and Onions
Two of the best things we need in almost all of our hearty meals, they enhance taste and are widely used in many different dishes.
Garlic and onions are very toxic to cats, they destroy a cats red blood cells and can make them anemic.
If you are cooking for yourself and you plan to share your meal with your cat then think again.
Grapes and Raisins
It’s been strongly advised by the ASPCA that you should NOT feed your cat any raisins or Grapes. They contain many harmful toxins that are still being researched as to why.
